Track of the Week 19

I haven’t been the biggest Tiesto fan since the release of his Just Be album, but I decided to give him another shot and got my hands on Kaleidoscope when it first was released. Although it isn’t what I’m accustomed to, Feel it in My Bones ft. Tegan and Sara does have a catchy tune, and overall gives a more mainstream sound.

Living in Ottawa no one really knows any trance artists except for Tiesto and David Guetta (two of my least favourite artists) but ever since this track has hit the airwaves more and more people will come up to me and have some knowledge of other artists out there.

Overall I enjoy this track when I’m out with friends, I just can’t wait until more and more tracks are played on the radio without having to purchase Sirius.

Track of the Week 18

With the weather heating up, I’ve loaded my phone with older tracks. One track that has been on continuous play is Paul Oakenfold’s smashing hit, Southern Sun remixed by DJ Tiesto. Originally released in 2002, and again in Tiesto’s In Search of Sunrise: Panama compilation.

This track brings back many memories, have a listen!

Track of the Week 16

Holiday Edition!

I hope everyone is having a great, and safe, holiday. This week I’m in Montreal visiting the family, and hopefully staying for New Years. Anyhow, this weeks Track of the Week goes to  Breakfast for the track Air Guitar. Many recent tracks have been using this guitaresque sound… I’m going to guess and say it started with Junkie XL’s Air Guitar Remix of UR from Tiësto’s Just Be album. Have a listen!

Enya + trance?

I was listening to some songs on my laptop the other day, and I am surprised that no DJ has had the opportunity to mix a song with Enya. When I listen to a track like Feel the Sun Rise – Banyan Tree from Tiësto’s In Search of Sunrise, Vol. 7: Asia I get goosebumps, and when I listen to an Enya song – like Caribbean Blue – I fall in a dreamworld. I can hear her lovely, mystical voice complement any song, if properly done. I do remember Armin van Buuren mentioning that he would want to produce a track with her when he was promoting his album 76, but nothing has materialized on this front. I’ll continue crossing my fingers for this syngery of two of my favourite artists.

Make it happen Armin!

Track of the Week 02

We’re going back 10 years this time for a track produced by two of the greatest DJs, a track that became an anthem of the trance scene, and engraved this track and group into an all time classic. This track of course is Gouryella by the duo of Tiesto and Ferry Corsten – who formed the project group Gouryella. Sure I could rhyme off that they both won a gold record for the release of the track, but more importantly this – I think – is when trance was at it’s peak. I love the earlier work of both these men, and as a whole the trance scene back then – it is when I first started to listen to this genre. Since the I’ve continued to listen to both of them, but not with the same ear as I did then. They both changed their style for better, or for worse? It’s different, and a nice change. People claim Tiesto is a sell-out, he’s not. He changed the flavour of his music to reach a wider range of listeners – after all this is what we’re all trying to do, to expose more people to this genre and cast away all the negative elements associated with it. It’s about the music and Tiesto continues to support it. While Ferry also runs his own radio show, but hasn’t changed his taste that drastically, and still pumps the crowds up.

Track of the Week 01

Every week I will be sharing my favourite track of the current week. This week I chose To Forever by Rachael Starr, which is featured on Tiësto’s In Search of Sunrise 7: Asia, which has been my most played song on both my iPhone and laptop. Starr’s soft voice along with the track’s beat by Tiësto has caught my ear. This tune, along with the rest of the Asia edition, has such a unique sound and it all flows together in a quiet and uplifting way.
